Derbyshire Doodles

Australian labradoodles have a heritage of being bred for the purpose of being service dogs for people with allergies. This means that from the start the traits selected for in breeding have been temperament and low allergy potential. Because of these origins Australian labradoodles  are a breed which are primed to be attentive to their person, very intuative and sensitive in reading human emotion, very trainable often nothing pleasing them more than a training session as then they have your full attention.

 Australian labradoodles because of the years of selective breeding are reliably non shedding which is important for some people for allergy reasons or day to day maintenance. As well as being non-shedding, trainable and people focused they are overall calmer than many poodle cross breeds whilst still being fun loving and playful. They still tend to make great therapy dogs as well as companions, and will happily turn themselves to dog sports, and when all else is done, are most likely to be found at your feet, keeping them warm.

Another great factor in their development is breeders have had the opportunity to decrease many of the common inherited diseases in the parent breeds. We have had the benefit of access to greater technology as this breed was being developed. This has allowed informed breeding choices. 

We have been able to choose parents with good hip and elbow scores and with the advancement  of genetic testing have also been able to screen for many known inheritable diseases which means genetic conditions are very rare in Australian labradoodles. We combine this background with a commitment to low inbreeding to minimise chances of currently untestable traits cropping up. Our dogs become such an important part of our lives we want to enjoy them for as long as possible. 

How to know if this is the breed for you? 

Are you looking for primarily the ultimate companion, ready to join you for a run, or a day on the sofa? Do you like the thought of a dog but are lacking in experience so want a gentle breed easy to train, or are allergic to dog hair? Are you looking for a dog with therapy dog tendencies, a gentle loveable empathetic nature? Do you have young children and want a breed likely to settle well into family life? Do have availability for you dog to be near you much of the time.

 If so Australian labradoodles with a just reasonable amount of training will meet these roles with enthusiasm and love. If however you are motivated to train to a high level they will jump on board with gusto if it means working with their favourite person. Agility, tracking, tricks and more or just that tail wagging companion never far from your feet. 

Probably the only setting where Australian labradoodles  won]t adapt well to is where they will be left alone much of the time. They are born companions so will be sad if alone most of the time. On the other hand, if you have a job where you can take your dog with you they couldn’t be happier.
